You read that title right. I got the chance to review Lyre’s! A non-alcoholic one that is.
Let’s get a proper introduction. Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits – Award-Winning Spirits and Excellent for Cocktails.
So you can probably guess why Lyre’s – an Australian brand of non-alcoholic spirits – chose the bird as its namesake. It’s because the Australian lyrebird is said to be the best mimic on earth.
Lyre’s has a range of 13 “impossibly crafted” non-alcoholic spirits. An incredible amount of time thought and science went into making these flavours as close to their alcoholic counterparts as possible. And so far, this non-drinker over here is loving it!
Recently launching their online store in South Africa, I was super excited to be introduced to the brand. The team sent over the PINK LONDON COSMOPOLITAN SET to taste. Doesn’t the name just give you “Sex and the City” vibes? We tasted both spirits on their own, then mixed a cocktail with each.
We’ll start with the Orange Sec:
This classic spirit has been crafted to capture the essence of an orange liqueur. Flavours that are unique and contemporary. Lyre’s spirits don’t just mimic, they have their own distinction as a premium, non-alcoholic beverage.
The balance between the freshness of orange and its natural sweetness fills the palate. Wonderful aromatics deliver a generous soft finish. A very appealing liqueur with a distinctive flavour that we adore.
This unique spirit has been crafted to capture the essence of a Pink Gin. With flavours that are distinct and contemporary. The immediate presence of rose, cherry, red berry and blackberry characters come bursting with flavour. The mouthfeel is fragrant and rich in flavour. The presence of juniper delivers a generous gin focused finish.
I genuinely loved both non-alcoholic spirits. The flavours were right up my alley and made me say “mm” after every sip. You feel so sophisticated when you whip out a bottle of Lyre’s because the guests always wanted a closer look. The best part of it all was that it’s a brand that lets everyone feel included. Me especially. Now I can walk proudly around a party with my fancy drink in hand, and not the usual can of coke, clinking every guest’s glass saying. “Cheers!”
We’d highly recommend adding a bottle of Lyre’s to your non-alcoholic bar. Not only does the bottle make a beautiful addition, but it’s a great mixer for your favourite non-alcoholic cocktails.
