Letibalm ‘Nose’ Best!

In true South African style: How HECTIC is this year’s flu? Seems like everyone I chat to feels like they’re either getting it, currently tackling it or, the lucky few, is just getting over it.

It defiantly hit me last week, swine flu to be exact. While my nose has been pouring like a tap, I got a chance to whip out something that lives in my li’l medical supply box and has served me well through multiple flus and that’s Letibalm so I was very glad to receive more of it earlier this week. After all, Letibalm ‘nose’ best!

Here’s expert advice from dermatologist Dr Lauren Knight on how to protect the skin, especially around the delicate nose and lips.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says influenza season typically starts in early June. This is a time of year that can wreak havoc on your family’s skin, especially around the nose and lips, when cold weather and seasonal illnesses can quickly lead to redness and inflammation.

We asked dermatologist Dr Lauren Knight, also known as Derm Discovered, for expert advice on how to protect this delicate area.

According to Dr Knight, colder temperatures and low humidity leave the skin feeling dry and less supple. The skin around the mouth and nose is thinner, which makes it less resilient and more vulnerable to damage. Excessive nose blowing – from ‘flu, colds or allergies – will make matters worse. And while it’s not serious, a chapped nose can be uncomfortable and could potentially become infected. It also takes longer to heal if not cared for correctly.

Dr Knight shared five tips from to help prevent the winter ‘nose woes’ and look after your nose and lips whenever colds, ‘flu or allergies strike.

1. Avoid touching the face and only wipe the nose when necessary. If a child is kept occupied, they will be less likely to fiddle. Keep fingernails short, just in case.
2. Wash hands regularly to prevent spreading germs. Also wash before and after wiping your child’s nose.
3. Use soft, unscented tissues, only wiping or blowing when you must.
4. Repair and restore the skin with a hydrating moisturiser or barrier cream. Letibalm Nose & Lip Repair is South Africa’s only balm for nose and lips. Why Sunscreen is Important… Exposure to the sun’s rays is the #1 cause of skin ageing via oxidative stress and inflammation.

Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays that reach the earth—UVA and UVB—both ultimately lead to premature ageing, wrinkles, and skin cancer development.
UVA rays (or ageing rays) can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkles and age spots, and can pass through window glass.
UVB rays (or burning rays) are the primary cause of sunburn and are blocked by window glass.

But did you know that photoaging mainly results from daily exposure to low doses of UV radiation, which does not cause visible changes at the time of exposure but leads to greater biological changes over time.

In fact, 80% of facial ageing is believed to be due to daily, chronic sun exposure, what is known as incidental sun exposure from everyday activities—walking the dog, retrieving mail, driving in the car, etc.

Sunscreen formulations generally combine several ingredients that help prevent the sun’s UV rays from reaching the skin.

A broad-spectrum sunscreen protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. SPF is a measurement of how much protection a sunscreen has against sunburn. Applying sunscreen with an SPF of 15, for example, means that it will take 15 times longer for your skin to burn than it would without sunscreen.

It doesn’t evaporate or feel like it’s disappeared in a second. It slowly absorbs into the skin and instantly plumping it.

Centella Asiatica has a boosting effect on collagen production. It can stimulate fibroblast proliferation and activate the signalling pathway to stimulate collagen production. Our skin feels so much more hydrated and plump. It’s honestly perfect for the dry JHB climate.

Our Review

These products really do stand out due to their unusual and very funny names, but apart from the catchy branding, the products were really good. And not just one of them. All of them. I adore that these products are cruelty free and completely vegan. So that means 100% natural ingredients that are perfect for sensitive skin gals like myself.

I’m yet to see any lifting happening in my derrière region from the “Pop Art” cream, but here’s hoping..

My skin feels super supple and deliciously soft. I especially find that with body washes, it strips your skin from all moisture and this one certainly doesn’t which is a huge win for a shower gel!

All in all, I am super chuffed with the brand.
